Lawmakers salary

Recently the local paper ran the story about the retired Jersey City police chief, Robert Troy who is now working as an aide to the Hudson County Executive.  Troy's current salary is $70,000, his current pension is $96,200, and the payout for unused days is $147,958.  Jersey City pays a higher proportion to the county tax base (Understanding Taxes).  A law should be passed that a public employee, retired or otherwise, who has two or more public jobs should have only one salary.  The second job should be a $1.00 a year job.

In the past there were $1.00 a year employees.  First, there was Morris Pesin, a former councilman who earned his money as a businessman.  When he retired from the business world, after his term as councilman, Morris Pesin, known as the Father of Liberty State Park, worked for Mayor Smith for $1.00.

Then there was Jerome Lazarus, he earned his money in the private sector.  He became an aide for Mayor Cucci for $1.00 per year.  Presently, Councilman Fulop has donated his salary.  He is the councilman for Ward E.

On another matter, many crimes involve the use of alcohol.  I believe it is poor taste for the Chief of Police to accept applauds from a beer company honoring him as "Irish Cop of the Year."
